On-Snow Rescue Training Day

This is a full-day 09h15 - 16h30 in either the Avoriaz or Chamonix ski area.

The on-snow session is designed to mirror the key learning outcomes of the AIARE Avalanche Rescue course (although this course is not yet certified by AIARE) and is ideal as both an introduction and a seasonal refresher.

We will start the day in the café to review theory elements and pre-ski planning rituals before heading out for a practical rescue training day:

  • Transciever trailhead test protocols
  • How to respond if you or your partner is caught in an avalanche
  • How to use your transceiver, shovel & probe effectively
  • We will start with clear and simple explanations and move onto increasingly advanced rescue scenarios throughout the day.
  • Please expect a full day on the slopes so bring plenty of clothing, food and energy.

🎯 Who It’s For:

  1. Skiers and snowboarders who need and introduction to avalanche rescue training.
  2. More experienced skiers and snowboarders who want to refresh skills, stay sharp and up-to-date.

You must be confident skiing or snowboarding easy black run terrain as a pre-requisite.

đź“‹ What to Bring:

  1. Ski or snowboard equipment and suitable winter clothing
  2. Lift Pass (Avoriaz local pass is fine, Flégère local pass is fine)
  3. Snacks, packed lunch, hot flask
  4. Your own avalanche pack (transceiver, shovel, and probe) or let me know in advance if you'd like to borrow a set (free of charge)
  5. Insurance - you are required to have valid winter sports insurance covering off-piste mountain rescue (including helicopter evacuation), Emergency medical cover & personal liability protection.
