Adult skiers who wish to break out of the intermediate plateau and become advanced.

1. Please bring a Portes du Soleil lift pass and have appropriate ski insurance. I advise also getting the insurance offered when purchasing your lift pass (approx 3 euros per day means you get free rescue off the mountain rather than potentially having to pay large fees upfront)
2. Skis, boots & poles The ideal ski for this course is an all-mountain style ski around 85-95mm waist width. Something like a K2 Mindbender 89.  We will be skiing a wide variety of conditions, from piste to powder to bumps to slush and whatever else we might find - having an all-mountain ski is likely preferable to having an overly piste specific ski, or anything wider than 100mm. However, boots are probably the most important bit of equipment for you to focus on as you progress from intermediate to advanced - be sure to find boots with a good fit to your feet, and ones which are stiff enough to handle the higher speeds and stronger skiing that you'll be doing. 
3. Ski clothing - Larying options recommended. Merino wool baselayer, fleece midlayer, puffy insulated layer (synthetic or down) and Goretex wind and waterproof shell. Please bring enough layers to be plenty warm enough during a full day out in the mountains.
4. Helmet, Goggles & Sunglasses.
5. Suncream & strong SPF Lip Balm. I also use a buff neck warmer thing to protect my face from the sun, as well as the cold.
6. Gloves & spare gloves - Personally I find it very helpful to layer gloves to avoid hands getting too hort or cold. I wear thin wind gloves (15 euros from decathlon) in warmer conditions and gore tex mitts in colder conditions.

The meeting point is Avoriaz and you must have a full area Portes du Soleil ski pass.

We will therefore be able to follow the best conditions around Les portes du Soleil, from the higher north facing slopes of Avoriaz, to the quieter and sunnier runs that we can cruise around in Switzerland.

From the amazing terrain of the Chatel & Plaine Dranse region to the beautiful panoramas of the Mossettes upper slopes. 

The meeting point will either be the Spot Cafe at the top of the Prodains Gondola, or the Salle Hors Sac in Lindarets.

Attendees can stay in Avoriaz, Morzine, Saint Jean Daulps, Les Gets, Les Crosets or similar. 

Please let me know where you will be staying and whether you have transportation or need buses & lifts.

In the week prior to the course, I will set up a whatsapp group to handle all meeting points and times and travel logistics with the group. 

Plan A is we will meet at 9:30am in Salle Hors Sac Cafe in Lindarets, but this may change nearer the time.

- You must have a minimum ski level of being able to ski difficult red run terrain in comfortable parallel turns.

- You must also be physically fit enough to complete full days (6hrs skiing) in potentially challenging terrain.

As long as everyone in the group has the two above pre-requisites then we will have a great team and be able to ski and explore lots of exciting terrain.

The minimum level is the ability to ski difficult red runs comfortably. As long as everyone in the group has this level then we will have a great team and be able to explore and train on a variaty of fantastic terrain thoughout the Portes du Soleil ski area. 

This course is designed for strong intermediates who can pretty much get down anything, with a minimum ability of being able to comfortably ski hard red runs. 

The objective is to help students break out of the intermediate plateau and become advanced skiers

That means confidence on steeper black runs, the ability to make quick short turns or carved long turns. The skills to ski moguls and variable snow conditions and to start exploring off-piste.

If you would like to work on any of the above strands of ski technique, then this course will be a great way to do it and you would not find the level to easy.

If you are already an advanced skier and confident with your steeps, bumps, long turns, bumps and off piste, then you may be more suited to the 'Advanced Ski & Avalanche Training Courses'- read more about those here. 

I cap my group sizes at a maximum of 6.

Please budget about 30 euros per day for your lunch - we will try and find a cool cafe or restaurant somewhere throughout various different regions Les portes du Soleil.  

On some occasions during good weather, we may do picnics at beautiful viewpoints and you will need a packed lunch - you would be warned about this beforehand in your team whatsapp chat.

If you need to be somewhere for lunch - please make this clear to me in your booking form, as we may sometimes be far away from Avoriaz.

We aim to complete full days together, approximately 9:30-4ish, and we will have lunch together as a group.
