Avoid these parts of Avoriaz - There is better terrain elsewhere!

Greetings Folks, George here. Getting excited for another season in les portes du Soleil.

The more I have travelled eslewhere, the more I have realised that Avoriaz offers truly world class terrain for off-piste skiing &snowboarding.

After a decade exploring these slopes, I'm gonna share with you some local knowledge to try and help you avoid ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time - so you can spend more time in the right places at the right times!

In the video tutorial - I'll show you 6 extremely dangerous off-piste areas that you'll want to avoid - places where accidents could be fatal. Places which are much less fun than others.

If you're gonna venture off piste, make sure you take a professional guide with local knowledge of the landscape.

If you want to explore off-piste, it's vital to take avalanche training courses beforehand. I offer various avalanche rescue training days and off piste skiing courses via www.offpisteacademy.com - check it out!

But it's not all scary and dangerous - If you study the terrain, make good plans and choose the right days - It's totally possible to enjoy these mountains safely - and to have the time of your life while doing it!

So what is it that I like about the Avoriaz ski area?

Well it's pretty great for versatility - with plenty of terrain variety.

The blue and red pistes are great honing grounds, then there's steeper black runs and plenty of mogul fields to tackle.

Next, there's wicked freeride parks with kickers and all sorts of fun features.

And then there's plenty of off-piste and backcountry - especially those who can hike for it - but ONLY those who are prepared for off-piste hazards in avalanche terrain. Or those with a professional guide.

And for the most adventurous? There's big mountain steep skiing, for the super gnarly.

And on top of all that - these mountains of the north western Alps get slammed by more than their fair share of snow - being the first to meet the incoming NW storms 💪.

BY THE WAY - This season there's gonna be a new Transceiver park at the top of Plan Brazy - the former arrival of the Lac Intrets Chairlift. The pisteurs will bury some transceivers in this area so you can go and pratice your skills, which is a great new facility for advanced skiers and snowboarders in the area.

You can download a high resolution and up to date piste map from the Avoriaz website here.

I hope the video is useful to you folks - and I wish you good times in the Portes du Soleil Mountains!
